Do I need blood tests before surgery?
Pre-operative assessment is part of preparing for surgery at Dr. Koko Vietnam. Your medical team will arrange the blood tests and any additional checks needed for your procedure and medical history.
These may include blood count, clotting, blood sugar, liver and kidney function tests. An ECG or other investigations may be requested where appropriate. The team will explain the schedule and any test charges as part of your treatment arrangements.
When should I arrive in Vietnam?
Plan to arrive before your scheduled surgery so you have time to rest after your flight, attend your in-person consultation and complete the required checks.
Our international patient team will help coordinate your appointment schedule and explain your recommended arrival date. Any airport transfer arrangements will be confirmed separately before you travel.
Can I eat before surgery?
For procedures involving general anaesthesia or sedation, you will receive specific instructions about when to stop eating and drinking. Food and clear liquids may have different fasting times.
For procedures under local anaesthesia only, different instructions may apply. Follow the instructions provided for your procedure and scheduled time, including guidance about taking regular medication.
What should I avoid before surgery?
Your medical team will provide preparation instructions suited to your procedure. These include guidance on:
Smoking, vaping and nicotine products.
Alcohol.
Medicines that may affect bleeding or anaesthesia.
Supplements, herbal medicines and traditional remedies.
Skincare treatments on the area being treated.
Any activity restrictions relevant to your procedure.
Provide a complete list of your medicines and supplements. Do not stop prescribed medication or change a dose yourself; follow the medical team’s instructions about what to continue or adjust.
What should I pack for my recovery in Vietnam?
For a comfortable recovery stay, useful items include:
Loose, comfortable clothing.
Button-up shirts or zip-up tops for easy dressing, especially after facial or breast surgery.
Comfortable slip-on shoes.
Books, downloaded programmes or other entertainment for rest days.
Your regular prescription medicines in their original packaging, with relevant documentation.
Travel and insurance documents.
Your passport and a separate copy.
Your phone, charger and important contact details.

We recommend arranging suitable insurance before travelling to Vietnam.
Standard travel insurance may exclude planned cosmetic surgery and related complications. Check whether your policy covers your intended treatment, unexpected medical care, trip changes and emergency evacuation.
